Losing weight alone is even more challenging for Individuals who have been obese for years. Bariatric surgery has been available for years and some people have been successful in losing weight after gastric bypass or other forms of weight loss surgery. Other individuals have been hesitant to undergo surgery but very much need some help. This is why IBI Healthcare Institute values Apollo Endosurgery and its versatile range of surgical tools developed with these patients in mind. Apollo Endo offers medical technology that makes endoscopic procedures possible as an alternative to surgery for weight loss.

About Apollo Endosurgery, Inc

Apollo Endosurgery is a progressive medical technology company that designs and develops tools and devices used for the non-surgical treatment of many gastrointestinal issues, revisions after bariatric surgery, and the minimally invasive ESG procedure for weight loss. The Apollo suite of products lowers the complication rates associated with invasive surgical procedures. Offered in over 75 countries, these state-of-the-art minimally-invasive endoscopic systems:

OverStitch® Endoscopic
Suturing System

OverStitch is a single-use device mounted on the top of an endoscope to perform endoscopic suturing. OverStitch Sx is a modified version compatible with more endoscopes available on the market.

X-Tack® Endoscopic HeliX
Tacking System

The X-Tack system was designed for the fixation of challenging defects in soft tissues of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, e.g. closure of fistulas, gastric leaks, etc.

Trademarked Apollo ESG, Apollo ESG Sx, Apollo REVISE, and Apollo REVISE Sx that contain OverStitch® Endoscopic Suturing device were given FDA approval on July 13, 2022, as the first and only systems for the endoscopic performance of non-surgical weight loss procedures: endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) and transoral outlet reduction (TORe). Over 25,000 endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedures and more than 10,000 bariatric revision procedures have been completed by gastroenterologists and surgeons worldwide utilizing these Apollo devices.

Apollo ESG: Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty With Apollo Overstitch

ESG is an endoscopic procedure that offers comparable weight loss results to VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy). Instead of cutting and removing a portion of the patient’s stomach through abdominal incisions, the entire procedure is performed through the patient’s throat with no incisions or excising of stomach tissue. The patient’s stomach is reshaped into a smaller tube-like pouch from the inside and then the surgeon uses Apollo ESG or Apollo ESG Sx (the one that fits down the endoscope) to place sutures in strategic areas to hold the new smaller shape.

Apollo REVISE: Addressing Weight-Regain Assisted By Apollo Revision Device

Some people who have undergone gastric sleeve or gastric bypass surgery may start to regain the weight they lost after their initial surgery. The regained weight can be the result of the reduced stomach pouch stretching, allowing more food to be consumed, or the enlargement of the opening between the stomach and the small intestine (stoma). The thought of having to undergo additional surgery to repair these issues is daunting at the least. The great news is that these corrections can be performed without surgery during the transoral outlet reduction procedure (TORe) with the Apollo REVISE (Sx) System. Using the Apollo endoscopic suturing device, the surgeon can tighten up these areas and restore them to their smaller size just like after your primary bariatric surgery.

How Is The Apollo Assisted Revision Procedure Done?

The procedure is completed on an outpatient basis so there is no hospital stay required. Patients are discharged the same day to recover comfortably at home. The patient is placed under anesthesia, so the experience is pain-free.

  • 1. An endoscope (a thin flexible tube) is placed down the patient’s throat. It has a lighted tip with a camera that sends images to a monitor so our surgeon can view the procedure in real-time.
  • 2. The special suturing device (Apollo Overstitch) is also lowered down through the endoscope.
      • Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty: the surgeon reduces the patient’s stomach volume by using Apollo ESG (Sx) to place full-thickness sutures in a specific pattern.
      • Endobariatric revision: Apollo REVISE (Sx) is used to place sutures in strategic places to restore the stomach pouch to its previous smaller size or to tighten the connection between the pouch and the lower intestine.
  • 3. The endoscope is removed, and the procedure is complete.
