What Is SlimMed Weight Loss Shot?

SlimMed weight loss shot

SlimMed medication therapy is a subcutaneous injection that is used for chronic weight management and was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in June of 2021. The medication contained within the injection is semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. This means that the medication impersonates or copies the naturally occurring hormone in our bodies referred to as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). The GLP-1 in our body sends signals to our brain to tell us if we are hungry and assists in regulating our appetite and food consumption.

The SlimMed weight loss shot also contains the medication levocarnitine which promotes fat metabolization in the body.

SlimMed Boosts Patients Diet And Exercise Efforts

SlimMed Weight Loss Shots make your hard work count for more by boosting your body’s naturally occurring level of GLP-1 which is a key player in controlling your blood sugar and your weight. It helps to curb your appetite by sending signals to your brain and it also causes the stomach to digest the food you consume much slower so you stay “full” longer. Levocarnitine is instrumental in causing excess fat to metabolize and be flushed out through the lymphatic system.

The SlimMed injection makes losing weight easier because it is working behind the scenes to keep you from constantly feeling hungry as well as boosting the efficiency by which your body gets rid of excess fat. When the SlimMed injection is combined with lifestyle changes that include a healthy diet and a physical exercise program, it can help promote the loss of more weight than the patient would experience without the medication therapy of the IBI injection. SlimMed weight loss therapy is offered and supported as part of a holistic weight loss program at the IBI Healthcare Institute weight loss center and the SurgiCare Arts & Aesthetics Division of IBI.

FAQs About SlimMed Injection Weight Loss Therapy

What Is The Average Weight Loss When Using SlimMed?

FDA approval was granted to the medication contained within the SlimMed injection after a 68-week series of robust placebo-controlled trials were observed and recorded. These trials included thousands of patients in multiple age brackets.

One of the most noteworthy trials recorded an average weight loss of about 15% among the participants. The average starting weight for this trial was about 231 pounds and most patients had a BMI of around 38. The patients that received the SlimMed injection therapy lost about 33 pounds or 15% of their starting weight but the patients that were administered the placebo only lost about 2.4% of their starting body weight.

This trial concluded that the patients that had the additional help from the weight loss shot lost more weight than those who tried just diet and exercise alone.

Is The Medicine Used In Slimmed Weight Loss Therapy The Same As Ozempic?

Yes, these are the same medications but differ in dose. Both the SlimMed Injection and Ozempic are the medication known as semaglutide, however, the dose approved by the FDA is different for each. Ozempic is approved by FDA to treat diabetes at a maximum strength of 1.0 mg once per week, and the SlimMed injection is approved by the FDA for the treatment of obesity and overweight patients at up to 2.4mg per week maximum strength. Greater weight loss is experienced due to the higher strength medication.

How Does SlimMed Weight Loss Injection Therapy Work?

SlimMed injection therapy is a once-a-week shot that is given to the patient through their upper arm, belly, or thigh. Each injection comes in a single-use, pre-filled syringe and contains one dose of the medication.

Patients normally administer their own injections and it is a very simple and painless process. The cap of the syringe is removed, the needle is inserted below the skin, and the medication is injected into the desired location. The cap is replaced on the syringe and it is appropriately disposed of.

This process is repeated every week and at monthly intervals, patients return to the doctor for a check in and to pick up next month’s syringes. The dose of medication can be adjusted each month if needed until the patient reaches the maximum dose.

How Often Will I Need To Have The Slimmed Shot For Weight Loss?

Patients only administer the SlimMed Weight Loss Shot once a week. It is recommended that the shot be administered at the same time of day and on the same day of the week for best results.

How Is The Dose Of The SlimMed Shots Adjusted?

Patients work closely with their doctors to check in on a monthly basis. Usually, patients begin their weight loss medication therapy with a dose of only 0.25mg. Once a week for 4 weeks the patient will administer an injection of 0.25mg and then follow up with their doctor. If the patient is tolerating this dose with no issues, the doctor will provide 4 more syringes that include a 0.5mg dose each to be used for the next 4 weeks.

The dose may be kept the same or could go up as high as 2.4mg depending on patient response and results.

The available doses are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1.0mg, 1.7mg, and 2.4mg.

For patients who are tolerating the medication, there is no set time limit. The SlimMed injection is considered medication for long-term usage.

Are There Side Effects When Using SlimMed Injections?

The most common side effect of the SlimMed shots is nausea and, less common but also experienced, are diarrhea or constipation. One of the main reasons the dose is gradually adjusted is to mitigate side effects by letting your body adjust to the medication over time. During the clinical trials, <5% of the participants stopped using the medication because of side effects.

Is SlimMed Safe For Me If I Have A Thyroid Disorder?

Patients who have a history of hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or are currently taking medication for these thyroid issues can safely use the SlimMed weight loss therapy, however, it is not for patients who have a history, personal or family, of medullary thyroid cancer – a rare type of thyroid cancer.
